This hand-stitched late Victorian paper gown is based on a dinner dress designed by the famed Charles-Frederick Worth in ca. 1892. The body of the dress is made from Kiku gold Japanese paper overlaid with Seikaiha watermark tissue, while the sleeves are in a metallic Japanese paper in a purpled bronze shade, again with tissue overlays to imitate lace. The sleeves are in the ‘gigot’ or leg o’ mutton style coveted by Anne Shirley. Hand-embroidered lines imitate the seams and folds of the dress. It is stitched onto cold-pressed 100% cotton paper. The original dress is held by the Kyoto Costume Institute (accession AC9206 95-7).

The dress is six inches tall, stitched by hand on 8x10 inch 100% cotton watercolour paper, which means that it will pop right into any commercial frame in that size, and be ready to hang on your wall.

Materials: Japanese papers and cotton floss on cotton paper
