Dress #081.2: Edwardian dress in black with brown belt.

This hand-stitched dress in based on a gown from the Austrian House of Drécoll, created around 1912-1913. The bodice is made from two layers of tissue, in black and off-white, over a camisole cut from gold and white floral Japanese chiyogami paper. The draping skirt, with its pointed train epitomizing the highest style of the time, is cut from black Nepalese paper. Stitched lines highlight the lines and folds of the dress.

The original dress is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art (accession 2009.300.2611).

The dress is 6 inches tall, stitched by hand on 100% cotton watercolour paper.

Materials: Nepalese paper, Japanese tissue, acrylic rhinestone, and cotton floss on cotton paper
